Hello dear readers!
I wanted to share with you an amazing R-O-M-A-N-T-I-C weekend getaway idea that I just lived with my husband. We were looking for a close destination to celebrate our second wedding anniversary and we decided to go to Montreux!
- It is 1h20 min from Geneva by train.
- Immediate vacation feeling
- Stunning views
- You have Le Montreux Palace (with SPA!!)
- Great restaurants and bars close by
Fairmont Le Montreux Palace
Le Montreux Palace is worldwide know for hosting all the VIP of the Montreux Jazz Festival every year. For me it was the first time I stepped inside this marvelous Palace to discover its hidden treasures, spacious hallways and breathtaking views. It is really a Riviera Landmark and makes part of all this glamour of the Leman Lake!
We arrived around 4pm to the hotel, we were very nicely welcomed. The staff is super attentive and are very smiley and friendly all the time.
We stayed in Room 515 which is a Deluxe room with lake view (if you are coming here you HAVE to choose lake view, totally worth it). Even if it was not the best weather, it was still a very nice view! The room is very spacious, with places to accommodate all of your belongings. There is a small living area, a desk, a big closet and the bathroom with bath & shower.
We had the lovely surprise of finding this in our room!!! Such a beautiful detail!! Thank you!!
Restaurant des Trois Couronnes (1* Michelin Star)
Our wedding anniversaries are leaded by Michelin Star Restaurants! That is how we chose the destination. I met Lionel Rodriguez the One Michelin Star chef of the restaurant in La Rencontre des Chefs at the Beau Rivage earlier, and it made me want to discover more of his cuisine.
The restaurant des Trois Couronnes is settled in the Hotel des Trois Couronnes in Vevey (literally 10 min away from Montreux) in direction of Geneva. The restaurant has a particular antique decoration with painting in the walls and ceilings. The tables are are placed facing the lake and are covered with white table cloths, beautiful flowers and the usual mise-en-place.
We decided to go a little crazy and pop the champagne and order the full discovery menu with the wines accordingly. The 6-course-menu is well balanced, had varied ingredients and made us discover Chef Rodriguez cuisine.
The menu is 240 CHF per person with the according wines. In general the cooking was really good in taste. For some reason we had a very long wait between the fish and the meat, and they apologised for the delay. They catch-up with the desert that was an amazing strawberry soufflé that was accompanied with an extraordinary champagne Cuvee Louise Pommery 1999.
After a 6-course-menu we actually did not felt overexploded, the portions are proportioned and we were able to finish everything.
Funky Claude’s Bar
After the restaurant we went back to the hotel and could not resist to have a drink at Funky Claude’s Bar. It is located in the ground floor of the Montreux Palace and it is specialized in creating and elaborating amazing cocktails.
They have live music every evening from Thursday to Saturday, the vibe is obviously Jazzy- prohibition-era-old-style with a lot of wood, thousands of bottles in the walls, a central bar, barmans dressed with bowties and shakers shakking here and there. There is a scene in the back with a singer chanting known melodies and the cocktails are FABULOUS! I had a Pepito and hubby had a Boulevardier, both excellent!
Congratulations to the barman! We could see the passion he had for the mixology and the broad knowledge in the subject! Thank you for sharing this!
Willow Stream Spa
After a good night sleep we had a quick mini breakfast in our room (we certainly did not wanted to eat too much) and headed directly to the Spa. The Spa is situated in the gardens of the Palace with a stunning view of the Leman Lake and the Alps.
What a better way to detox from the week and get ready for a new day than a session in the steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. There is a huge indoor pool and a jacuzzi facing the gardens open all year and an outside pool open during summer time.
If you are looking for a little sport there is also a 300sqm fitness room very well equipped!
After our little Spa session we headed to the Legendary Montreux Palace Brunch! I was not expecting such a majestic display! I wanted to make an important emphasis to the Brunch since it is simply mind blowing! From hot to cold station passing by carving station, cold cuts, cheese cart, desserts, pasta-a-la-minute, eggs, juices, fruits, ice-cream and chocolate fountain… you have it all! It is worth the detour and even a back and forth from Geneva only for the brunch 😉
Special parents note: They take care of the kids while your brunch… for free!!
Lucky for me Chef Patrice Grappe was there supervising every minor detail and I was able to approach him so he explained every station, his favorites and even gave me some tips on food photography! I was very pleased to meet him and congratulate him personally for this unforgettable brunch!
After almost getting into a food-coma we had to take the hard decision of coming back to Geneva 🙁 , it was still raining (it rained all weekend unfortunately) and it seemed the sky was as sad as us to be leaving this beautiful Palace.
Lucky me it is only 1h20 from Geneva and I hope I will be coming back sooner than later!
Hope you enjoyed the post! I will be posting separate articles of the restaurant and hotel with more details, this is really a general impression!
