After months (literally I started in June) of working in my office for the blog. I can finally share with you the result of how beautiful it is!
I am very proud of this project because I was able to work with amazing people all throughout the process. I first started with Eliette from Clarity home detox, then I planned and conceptualised everything with Sofia from sofiaclara.com and last for the decoration I worked with Ekkla.com and laredoute.ch to choose great pieces to put everything together.
For me it was important to keep the budget reasonable. As you might now I stopped my 9-to-5 job in June 2018 and well, this makes a difference at the end of the month, so I had to be careful to not overspend.
With Sofia this was one of my favorite things to work with her, she adapted to my budget and make the MOST out of it!
I have to admit, I was a little scared of the outcome, going through all of your belongings is a BIG task that will start a sequence of events afterwards. If you want to start a HOME DETOX, be prepared for CHANGE.
Eliette & Marieke are identical twins, and they are here to spark joy thanks to Marie Kondo’s method of organising. In simple words, Marie Kondo is a Japanese author that has sold more than 9M books of “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying up”, in her book she explains step by step how to declutter your house and space (and be happier in the meantime).
The amazing thing about Clarity is that you can book a 6-hour session with either Eliette or Marieke and they will guide you step by step on how to live the method including tips about your space, folding techniques, colour coding organisation and an action plan at the end of the session with things to follow up.
A lot of people have asked me, why do I need someone to come to my house and help me? And I always answer with a big smile “because there is a reason you haven’t done it so far”. In my case, I never “have” time to spend 6 hours taking all my clothes out and go through them! I never “have” time to throw away my things, etc.
When you hire someone that has all the experience you need to help you achieve something (in this case home-detoxing); first, you block the time and have no option but to show up. Second, you will have someone with you during 6 hours helping you stay focused, motivated and efficient. Third, you will get a to-do list/ action plan for follow up with links of furniture to buy, where to throw away the stuff, selling, etc.
Clarity not only comes 6 hours to help you achieve your decluttering goals, but gives you a method, keeps you accountable of your actions and gives you tons of organising tips to stay organised.
I met Sofia at an event a couple of years ago, we talked and after a few minutes we clicked. Because of our hectic lives we do not get to hangout that much, but we follow each other’s journey thanks toinstagram(have you heard about it? LOL).
Sofia wears SO many hats, honestly I have rarely seen someone so proactively good at so many things at the same time. A few of her “activities” are: she has opened 2 restaurants in Lausanne (Le Pointu & recently Loxton) she decorated both places and also cooks brunch at Le Pointu and creates recipes for both, she is a full-time blogger and influencer on the website and instagram, she is a interior designer/decorator consultant for personal spaces, but also window shops and I guess many more things… but at least this is what I know of 🙂
I love her style, and when I wanted to start the project of having a home office I immediately thought of her. I needed someone with experience that could guide me through the look & fee, space & organisational details. Someone that, like me, works from home and understands the importance of a beautiful space to work, feel inspired and motivated.
Sofia and I after our huge shopping spree at Interio
Before…. before wanting to transform the space into my Home Office the room was just the guest room. There was a tiny desk you could barely see because it was always full of stuff, a huge shoe storage that was not practical and way to big, a bed and the closet.
My clothes, shoes, stuff was all around the house. Some inside our room, other in the other room. Shoes were pretty much ALL around the house.
As I learnt from Eliette, nothing had really “HOUSES”. If you want to keep your home clear of clutter and with a flowing vibe things have to have HOUSES, and when they are no longer in use they need to go back to their house, just like you at the end of the day.
Wow… this process took us (me) four months! It all started with the Home Detox with Eliette (see photos below). I also had to move some furniture around (change the closet with the bed) and buy some Ikea furniture and of course build it!
I also sold some of the furniture I already had, like this it made me a little something to buy the things I was missing.
I am so happy of the result! Exactly what I wanted to feel inspired to work from home, have everything organised and keep the elements like the bed and the closet.
Just by switching the bed and the closet made such a HUGE difference! The space feels huge and plenty of light!
Once again THANK you to lovely Sofia for helping me through the process and answering all my annoying whatsapps saying “where should I hang this?” and also for a fun shopping spree at Interio! The final touches make all the difference!
Thank you Eliette for being a huge inspiration on the art of tidying up and for starting a revolution that is changing my life and the way I see at things! Keep only what sparks JOY! I undertood after 4 months of Mariekondoing my house that it is a life philosophy that should include everything in life: Material things (obviously), but also activities, people you see, job?, accounts we follow, things we read, etc etc etc…. as you said a 6-hour session is just the tip of the iceberg (boy you were right!)
Thank you EKKLA for that amazing Bamboo lamp that brought everything together bringing a natural material to the decor. This lamp is not only #goals but is also sustainable and 5% of the sales go to charity!
Thank you La Redoute for the beautiful furniture and amazing home accesories (obsessed with the marble balls) and bringing to Switzerland a hype and afforable selection of decor.
